HIV/AIDS

The Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative

HIV/AIDS has hit sub-Saharan Africa harder than any other region in the world. Limited resources, poor infrastructure, and a severe lack of health care workers have made the crisis extremely difficult to manage effectively. The Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative is addressing many of the challenges that inhibit the success of existing efforts, taking measures to work with national governments serve the healthcare needs of people in need. Today:

  • More than 95 percent of people in Africa in immediate need of treatment live in countries that have access to CHAI’s discounted prices for ARV drugs and diagnostic supplies.
  • CHAI is working with nine countries in Africa to roll out wide-ranging programs to assist with scale-up of care and treatment. These are Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
  • CHAI is assisting an additional 19 countries in Africa to increase pediatric HIV treatment. These countries receive drugs, diagnostics and therapeutic food financed by UNITAID, and programmatic assistance from CHAI to increase pediatric HIV treatment capacity.
  • An additional five African countries have agreements with CHAI under which they can access our reduced prices for ARV drugs and diagnostic testing equipment and consumables.
  • CHAI is working to bring comprehensive health care services beyond AIDS treatment to people living in rural areas in seven African countries.
