Climate Change

Clinton Climate Initiative

With three out of four Africans depending on agriculture for their income, global climate change threatens to have a particularly devastating impact across the continent. By altering weather patterns and increasing temperatures, global warming will strain already scarce water resources and food supplies in areas that need them most.

This looming threat requires a new approach to development that includes drastically reducing global greenhouse gas emissions generated today and building a new energy- efficient and clean energy infrastructure for tomorrow. The Clinton Climate Initiative is helping several large cities in Africa – including Johannesburg, Addis Ababa, Lagos, and Cairo – grow in a sustainable way to ensure their contribution to global climate change is minimal.

CCI is working with 40 cities around the world to take similar action to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Through innovative projects, such as the Initiative’s Building Retrofit Program which gives cities access to capital to make energy saving renovations to buildings, cities will play a significant role in the fight against global climate change.
