Mobilizing Action
The Clinton Global Initiative, a nonpartisan initiative of the Clinton Foundation, brings together a community of global leaders to devise and implement solutions to some of the world’s most pressing problems. At its Annual Meeting, CGI convenes world leaders, business executives, nonprofit directors and other experts. Through its emphasis on results, CGI creates more than an opportunity for discussion: each CGI participant is asked to undertake specific action—called a “commitment”—in one or more specified areas of focus. In two years, CGI has inspired nearly 600 commitments impacting 1,000 organizations in 100 countries on six continents.
One-fifth of these commitments will have a direct and measurable impact in dozens of African countries, affecting millions of lives. From delivering quality health care to treat patients with malaria, TB and AIDS, to facilitating microfinance to empower small business owners and women to overcome poverty, these wide-ranging commitments focus on alleviating poverty, confronting global health crises, combating global climate change and increasing access to education for all.
